What the 1 MB ceiling means before you choose an image.

Will the compressed image stay under 1 MB?

Yes. A result is only shown as successful after its final Blob size has been checked at or below the effective 1 MB limit. If the original file is already smaller, the original file size becomes the effective ceiling.

Why can the result be smaller than exactly 1 MB?

1 MB is treated as a maximum, not a byte count that must be matched exactly. Image encoders produce discrete results, so the best valid output may land below the limit.

Does 1MB mean 1,000,000 bytes on this page?

Yes. This preset uses decimal MB. If your requirement uses the binary unit MiB, open the generic compressor and choose 1 MiB instead.

What happens when the original is already smaller than 1MB?

The effective ceiling becomes the original file size, so a successful result cannot be larger than the source. The image is still decoded and re-encoded, so keep the original when no processing is needed.

Are my images uploaded or stored?

No. Your original and processed images stay inside your browser and are never uploaded to our server. Refreshing or closing the page clears the working image data from the browser. Files you download remain on your device until you delete them.
